Sewage Cleanup, Done Safely and Completely

Sewage backups are the one loss where DIY genuinely endangers your family — Category 3 water carries bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Our crews arrive in full PPE, extract, disinfect, and verify — and we know Long Island's cesspools and sewer quirks better than anyone.

Before our crew arrives

Do this right now — and don't do this.

⚠️ Do this now

  1. 1Keep everyone out. Kids and pets especially. Close the door to the affected area and don't track through it.
  2. 2Stop running water. Every flush and every drain feeds the backup. Pause laundry, dishwashers, showers.
  3. 3Photograph from the doorway. Document the extent without wading in. Your claim needs it; your health doesn't need contact.

🚫 Never do this

  1. Don't handle soaked materials bare-handed. Category 3 water contaminates everything it touches. Gloves aren't enough — this is full-PPE work.
  2. Don't sprinkle bleach and call it done. Surface bleach doesn't disinfect saturated porous materials — they have to come out.
  3. Don't run fans. Aerosolizing sewage moisture spreads pathogens through the air to clean rooms.

// This advice is free whether you hire us or not. That's the point.

// Performed to IICRC S500 Category 3 protocols with full PPE and containment.

Insurance, translated

What your policy typically covers here.

Typically covered

  • Sudden sewage backup cleanup — with a water/sewer backup rider on your policy
  • Overflow from toilets and internal drain failures (case-dependent)
  • Tear-out and disinfection tied to the covered event

Watch-outs

  • Many standard NY policies exclude sewer backup without a rider (usually a cheap add-on — check yours today)
  • Municipal main backups may involve the municipality's liability process

Sewer backup riders cost little and save five figures. If you don't have one, call your agent this week — and call us if the backup already happened. Every policy differs — this is orientation, not a coverage decision; your policy language and adjuster determine final coverage.

Common questions

Sewage Cleanup — answered honestly.

Is a sewage backup really that dangerous?

Yes. Category 3 ('black') water carries E. coli, hepatitis A, and parasites. Skin contact, splash, and aerosols are all exposure routes. It's the one cleanup we tell homeowners flatly not to attempt.

My cesspool backed up — do you handle that?

All the time; much of Suffolk County still runs on cesspools and septic. We handle the interior contamination completely and coordinate with your cesspool service on the cause.

What has to be thrown away?

Porous materials that absorbed sewage — carpet, pad, drywall below the water line, insulation, upholstered items. Hard, non-porous surfaces can usually be disinfected and saved. We're aggressive about saving what's safely saveable.

Does homeowners insurance cover sewage backup?

Only with a water/sewer backup endorsement on most NY policies — a rider that typically costs under $100/year. If you have it, we document and bill the carrier directly. If you don't, we give you honest fixed pricing.

How long until my home is safe again?

Most residential sewage losses are extracted and disinfected within 1–2 days, with drying complete in 3–4. We verify cleanliness before we call it done.
